Spotlight on a Project:
Studio Squire
Once a pair of humble railway cottages, now a characterful Sussex escape — this thoughtfully restored retreat is a masterclass in design. We spoke with designer, Angelica, to delve into her creative process and uncover the thoughtful details that bring this project to life.

Working with Scale
A standout for us, this single bedroom nestles under the roof of the home. As it was a small room to work with, Studio Squire decided to lean into the cabin-like space. Tongue and groove panels from top to bottom are colour-drenched in India Yellow paint; with limited ceiling height, they were restricted with lighting options - the window alcove turned out to be the perfect spot for a little pendant.Â

Smart Spaces
The home features a long living room, which originally had a fireplace at each end. One was disused so a more practical solution came to be a built-in bar: they raised up the lintel and installed a handy little fridge behind cabinetry - all close to a garden door for ease when hosting in summer. Disguising tech can be tricky, but with a little help from a suzani throw found on Etsy hung from an iron pole with wooden pattresses the TV can be easily blocked from view.
